Low calorie diets are diets that recommend you to ingest no more than 1,200 calories per day. As you can see, the 500 calorie diet is at the lower end of the scale. The reason for going on a low calorie diet is to lose weight quickly.

Losing weight is easy in theory. Simply burn off more calories than you consume. Keep in mind, though, that an extremely low calorie diet is damaging to dieters’ health. Their metabolic rate is altered because their body requires energy but doesn’t have sufficient supplies. Consequently, their body will start to eat away at their muscle mass.

This process occurs because muscle mass is converted to energy since there is not enough of it to be derived from a low calorie diet. Obviously, this is highly detrimental to your body.

For those who are overweight and consume 2,000 or more calories daily, to suddenly bring it down to 500 calories a day will virtually be like starving themselves. For the purpose of conserving energy, their metabolism rate decelerates and their bodies move into starvation mode.

So as their bodies adjust to the fewer calories while on the 500 calorie diet, if they go back to their previous high calorie habits, they will experience a sudden gain in weight. In fact, they usually gain back more weight than what they previously weighed had they not gone on a low calorie diet.

Men and women have different calorie intake requirements. As an example, an average man requires 1,500 to 1,600 calories per day, while a woman just requires 1,200 to 1,300 calories. Aside from gender, other elements used to determine a person’s ideal calorie intake are body type, activity level, and their height. This is the reason why a person needs to see a doctor prior to beginning a low calorie diet.

Obviously, low calorie diets such as the 500 calorie diet may be very harmful. However, if you still are intent in following the diet for quick weight loss, you should see a nutritionist to make sure it will not negatively affect your health.

Lose 10 Pounds in 2 Weeks

You can lose 10 pounds in two weeks by eating a reduced carb diet and doing intensive aerobic excercises each day. However, it will not be easy to maintain this rate of excercise once the two weeks are done and you will also experience fatigue and lack of energy. Once you stop excercising you may gain some of the weight back.

You can use a calorie shifting diet. This weight loss method keep your metabolism running high while letting you eat a reasonable amount of food. Combine calorie shifting with brisk walks 3-4 times a week and you have a great chance to lose 10 pounds in 2 weeks.

You’ll need to lose water weight. You’ll gain most of this back, but if you’re trying to lose 10 pounds in 2 weeks… it’s not all going to be fat. You lose water weight either by dehydrating yourself (I don’t recommend that) or by doing the opposite… by drinking a lot of water. The reason why drinking a lot of water helps you to stop retaining water is because your body senses that there is enough water so there is no need to retain the extra water.
